Monthly post.

So I have nothing much to say but Merry Christmas!

I haven't been able to add anything here as I have been busy with Instagram.

On the upside, I have over 55 likes.

I have had to postpone starting on water coloring my inktober works due to reality getting in the way.

I will probably try some water coloring this weekend but can make no promises.

That is all.

On the subject of Pokemon Sun and Moon.

Why Rotom and Hidden things matter to me.

I am just about to start playing Pokèmon Moon, but before that I want to get something of my chest, and I’m not talking a Zygrade core.

Hidden machines are not evil.

With the release of Pokèmon Sun and Moon many people are taking the “Ride Pokèmon” mechanic to mean that we will be rid of Hidden Machines, or HMs for short.
Unlike most players I don’t hate them, as a matter of fact I am more bothered by other people hating them, and worse, the whole “HM slave” mindset.
The idea behind Pokèmon is to be friends with the creatures, the idea that a partner is only good for fighting is literally against this idea!

A bad memory or a flawed play style?

I have good memories of many things in Pokèmon, and many of those things are hidden.
When I first played I was aware of the HM mechanic from Nintendo Power magazine, I believe it was mentioned in their Pokèmon Power insert.I thought it was cool that we could get moves that let us change the landscape to explore, to find new and hidden things, not just item balls with a super potion, or a Full Restore.
A few generations later we had moves like Dive and Waterfall, and later DeFog. my biggest complaint? Not “I have to waste a Pokèmon on these moves.” or “I have to waste a spot I need for a 'real' move. ” it was that there weren't enough places to use them.
To me the best part of Pokèmon, next to all the different creatures and their designs, is the ability to explore, that’s the best part of any R.P.G. really.
It had some significance to me, that I had to not just become stronger and better at the game to explore more areas, that I had to choose what creature I wanted to help me do this. That’s one of these reasons I taught surf to Blastoise in Gen 1.
If you really don’t want to load up your team with a bunch of wasted slots, as far as I’m concerned you can just teach them to a Smeargle, which isn’t a bad idea to me, because I like Smeargle.

Be very quiet, I’m haunting Rotoms.

Which brings me to Rotom.
When I played Diamond or Pearl (I had the blue one, Palkia I think.) My favorite parts we’re Rotom and Giratina’s.
I had absolutely no idea they were there, I had finished the Pokèmon League and was exploring, looking for places that I couldn’t reach before, and one night while
I was exploring a forest, I found a path that lead to a spooky house, I don’t even remember if I had encountered an event N.P.C. related to it, but I walked inside and at first I thought it was just a ghost type location, I pressed on exploring, I realized it was supposed to be a haunted house, but I was surprised to discover that when I investigated a tv, out came…
A Legendary Pokèmon!
Or so I thought, I have always considered Rotom to be a Legendary, simply because of how you find him, to me it was like finding an easter egg.The same within Giratina, I just followed the clues, and there it was.

An Item Ball full of fond memories.

I love exploring with out being lead on or knowing what I am looking for.
The Golem trio was hidden with braille. Silvers backstory, the Sevii Islands. The Haunted houses, and related stuff from the Old Chateau to the Haunted House in Black and White.
The ghost girl in Luminise City, the writing on behind the pillar in the train station, the woman listening to the elevator. Things like Kyruem, Village Bridge, Desert Resort, the Sunken Ruins, The mysterious radio frequency in the Ruins of Alph, The Abandoned Power Plant on the, even the Unknown Dungeon.

Unsolved Mystère.

Although I think the Kalos Power Plant, the Ghost Girl, Rhydon Race Track, and New Mauville were a bit of a disappointment, not because of having to find them, but because they didn’t have much at all to see, and certainly no Legendary Pokèmon.

Well, who care what you think H.M. moves suck!

Well I care, if you really care that the moves are useless, how about asking if they can be useful instead of saying, “I hate HMs.”
There are plenty of different moves, Hidden Power is based on IVs, others like Helping Hand require a partner, some effect the field, some effect you team mates, some harm only certain types, so why not demand they make the H.M. moves have a similar effect.
Maybe they can make so that the moves have different powers based on the Pokèmon's size for Strength and Rock Smash, maybe make Surf more effective near water, DeFog decrease flinching.
Or maybe make it’s power go up exponentially if the user is an unexpected type, like say a water move on a rock type?

What do you mean unexpected? This was not expected!

One of the most important reasons why H.M.s matter to me most of all is a memory I have form Gold and Silver, when I got the H.M. for Surf I was wondering who I could use it on.
I was shocked to discover that one of the Pokemon I could teach it to was, Rhydon.
I thought it was a glitch at first, Rhydon’s a Rock type not Water, I checked again, then I checked the players guide and verified, it could learn Surf.
To me that is one of the best kinds of mysteries, the fact that something you could never expect could happen.

So why do I like Mysterious Pokemon? Because Spoilers!

Well the fear that I have is that we will lose this mystery, all the trailers for Sun and Moon have been very informative lately, too informative, it started out fine, making us taste new things, wondering, but after a while, I was terrified to watch, because they were spoiling it!
They showed us Type:Null, I thought “Type:Null, that’s not a normal name, I wonder what the story is.” but they spoiled it by revealing its alternate form.

Or did they?

As I wrote this I realized that they may have thrown me off track, maybe the alternate form looks like Type:Null because it was what Type:Null started as, who know what else exists.
See this is the fun part, not the new battle styles, not the new features, or the Z-Ring mechanic, although those are cool, it's the stuff waiting to be found.
To paraphrase an old cartoon I like. The developers have been showing of a lot of things, I worry that they might spoil the game's treasures, no one knows if there are any more surprises that’s for sure, but I intend to find out.
HM04 boot!

Okay so I’m a cheesy ham! I know that's a groaner, lousy pun, alright stop throwing Null's at me. Get it?

11 05 2016

Welcome to anyone who came here from my instagram account, hope you enjoyed Inktober.

First off I want to explain to anyone who didn’t read my first Inktober post what’s going to happen with those drawings.

I drew them on watercolor paper and within the next couple of months, hopefully before the next Inktober I will paint them, of course I have to brush up on my painting skills first but I will be painting them, just not very fast, watercolor takes time, energy, and lots of patience. Not good to rush. but I will get them done.

Second I want to explain how I am going about this blog, until I reach a good number of regular visitors, say about 2000 for a month, I am going to be posting at least monthly, I will try to make a good backlog so I can start posting weekly but I have to be careful, one of my fears is that I will repeat myself, that would be kinda weird.

I intended to post my art once in awhile including using the roughs and line work to advertise the blog, I also will be uploading more of my truck stoppers stories as well as something a bit more esoteric like a, for lack of a better term, an opinion piece about something important to me.

I won't post fanart to my blog for personal reasons, mostly that I want my blog to be about my own ideas.

Eventually I hope create some drawing videos that will most assuredly be monetized and hopefully if I feel it’s worth the stress I will eventually try making Let’s play type videos thru the Nintendo Partners program.

And here’s the finished version of the drawing I posted on Instagram.
I will also post the finished version to Instagram later.

A sad rabbit novelist, in a green dress with an ascot.
I know, I forgot to ink part of the shoulder, I'll fix it later. but it's an interesting effect.

Quick update.

Just checking in to show I'm still here, I'm still recuperating from Inktober, I'm going to try something new and put a proper update on Saturday, Figure it will give me time to create a watercolor that I can post on the blog proper.
In the mean time please visit my Instagram profile at https://www.instagram.com/w.m.bat/ to see some fanart I drew, I will also be posting some art around 8:00 pm EST or earlier.

Inktober Day 31

The various objects and characters from my Inktober works.
A review of my Inktober works.
Day 31 I'm done, Hurrah. I'll admit I'm not happy with parts of this, I was trying something new using only one pen instead of a bunch for line work.
Hey to anyone who visits could you leave a comment if you feel like it, I don't know yet if these views I'm getting are real or re-direct spam. and believe me, I'd rather not be hamming it up for a bot with no intelligence. Now a bot with intelligence that's another question.

As usually this was done with a Pentel Mechanical pencil, Sakura Pigma pens, and Canson Watercolor paper.

Inktober 2016 Day 29

Dr.Jackal and Madam Hyena
Day 29 almost done, so this is a parody of Dr.Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, in this case their women, and anthros.
Made with a Pentel mechanical pencil, Sakura Pigma pens, a Prismacolor brush pen and Canson Watercolor paper.

Oh and a big hello to my visitors, I assume you're coming from Pinterest and Instagram?

Inktober Day 28

What do you think?
Three more days to go! So Here's the fifth entry in my Disembodied Eyes series. This time all the eyes are on a jackal lantern.

Inktober day 27

A Lonely mummy tries to make a friend?
Oh! Hi would you like to be my friend?
Ahhhh look she is trying to make a friend, with a dagger behind her back?

This is a good one, I wanted to do two pieces about a lonely mummy and I ended up connecting them, I think the dog guy is cute two. I really should give these characters names but so far I think the only one that I've named is the cat, see the hieroglyphs?

And hey looking at the stats I think I finally got a visitor from my pinterest board! Welcome!
Well that's one real person, out of about 15 "weird" redirect spams.

Inktober Day 26

Really interesting...
She's talking to eyeballs, really she is talking to eye balls.
This is the number four in the Disembodied Eyeball series.

Inktober Day 24

A strange castle on a hill.
Add caption
So here's day 24, I wonder how many likes on Instagram I'll get when I finally post it.
I know it's different from my usual posts, which for some strange reason known only to myself, have been anthro's, but I do have a few more with normal humans

Inktober Day 23

A Cute Vampire Mouse Woman.
So today I was uploading some of my Inktober works, and I've been getting likes.
So to those of you coming here from Instagram, Welcome!

So today's picture is an anthro mouse vampire woman, kinda cute isn't she, I know the ears look odd for a mouse but that's because it occurred to me to make them pointy for being a vampire, had I realized this before the picture I did before would also have pointy ears, oh well.

By the way, for anyone who is new here, as I've stated before I draw anthro characters primarily to avoid the only six faces problem, I'm not a weirdo, I just have a strange repertoire, personally I think it's cute.

Inktober Day 22

A Jackal Mummy welcome explorers to her tomb.
Welcome knowledge seekers... Why are you running?
So here's todays #inktober work, and a big welcome to anyone following me on Instagram.
So here we have a Jackal Mummy (No Relation to the Evil Mummy Queen from my story) Welcoming people to explore her tomb, that's right, she's welcoming them, not chasing them away, cursing them, welcoming them.

It occurred to me that when you think about it, the Ancient Egyptians might not be against archaeologists exploring tombs, grave robbers yes, but I once heard that the Ancient Egyptians believed that you weren't truly dead unless you were forgotten, well if it's all the same wouldn't you rather have your tomb desecrated by people who want to learn about you, then be left alone and forgotten? Makes you wonder what would happen if we did a mummy movie from this view doesn't it.

Made with Pentel Mechanical Pencils, Sakura Pigma Pens and Canson Watercolor Paper.

Inktober Day 21

The anthro Fennec Fox Rescues the Cat from the Mummy Queen.
The End?
Sorry I'm late, Yesterday there was a DDOS attack against several websites including Pinterest where I have an account https://www.pinterest.com/pencilcanblog/ .
Naturally I decided to wait to post to my blog out of fear that I might make myself a target for the attackers.
Now on to the art.
So here we have the third and for the time being final part of this story, the Anthro Fennec Fox and Cat have had their cloths transformed by cursed Ankh necklaces and chased by the Mummy Queen, The Queen has captured the Cat and now the Fennec Fox has come to rescue her friend.
Made with Canson Watercolor Paper, Sakura Pigma Pens and a Prismacolor Brush Pen, and a Pentel Mechanical Pencil

P.S. I just Realized I Forgot to Ink the Ear-rings on the other characters,

Inktober Day 20

A lonely anthro cat mummy for Inktober Day 20.
Sigh...
Ah poor thing she's lonely... and we probably don't want to get involved because I'm pretty sure we know what happens to anyone that disturbs her tomb.
There's a reason the Cartouche and the Sarcophagus next to her's is blank.
Created with a Pentel Mechanical Pencil, Sakura Pigma Pens and Canson Watercolor Paper.

Inktober Day 19

Eek! a naked woman! How'd that get there?
Personally I think I'm going to make a proper picture based on the poster in the background, yes it's a parody of mummy movie posters.
So here we have Day 19, I created this with Sakura Pigma Pens, Pentel Mechanical Pencil, a Prismacolor Brush Pen, on Canson Watercolor Paper.

Inktober Day 18

Oh NO! Not again....
Rule 1 for exploring ancient tombs, do touch anything that stands out, it's a tomb, they don't expect guests, they expect thieves!
So this is another one where I had to go over the black twice, take a close look you can see streaks.
I made this with a Pentel Mechanical Pencil, Sakura Pigma Micron Pens, a Prismacolor Brush Pen and Canson Watercolor Paper.

Inktober Day 17

An anthro mad science gal sleeping on a giant robot.
Snoore.
Here's a mad science gal for Inktober2016 Day 17. I'm a little tired myself, I feel run down, weak and low on energy...... losing power... Snooooore.

An Anthro Mad Science Gal for Inktober 2016 Day 16
So you fools think you can laugh at me? Do you!!??? Ha Ha!!! You think that you can ignore me and make it difficult to market my blog???!! You do don't you!!! HA! I'll show you, I'll show you all!!! Ha HA haha!!!
Sorry I get a bit hammy when I feel good about what I drew, though it would be nice if people who visit would tell me.

Inktober Day 15

A Sexy Anthro Belly Dancer Fennec Fox for Inktober 2016.
Well isn't this an interesting one. Yes I know it's a sexy anthro, so what? I think it's cute.
Look at those pumpkins rather cheeky aren't they?
By the way the reason I didn't black the mouths and eyes on the jewelry is because they light up too.

Inktober Day 14

The Mummies Cursed Jewelry Part 2, an anthro fennec fox and cat women running from the jackal Mummy Queen and here undead horde.
Run!
Here comes trouble, the Mummy Queen is hunting these two, wonder what will happen when she catches them. The is the second image in a story.

I have something interesting today, I am posting not only the finished inking but I wanted to show what it looked liked before I added in the black for the shadowy area.
Below you see what it looked like before I used my Prismacolor Brush pen to fill in the black areas.
X marks the spot.
The little x's you see are to tell me it is going to be filled in,after that I took my brush pen and went over the area twice to ensure it's fully black, only giving it one coat seems to leave it vaguely grey.

Inktober Day 13

Wednesday, October 12, 2016

Inktober Day 12

A woman surrounded by disembodied eyes complaining about an eye on her soup.
Waiter, there's an eye on my soup!
Yes I added pupils this time, its because when I drew the shine on the eyes it looked weird.
This image is the second in a series of five.

A Little Breather Post.

A little breather about my art.

So you may have noticed that in addition to having a watermark so people can track back to my site, I tend to draw anthro character a lot.
The reason is because I sometimes have trouble with the old cartoonist's lament, Only Six Faces.
It is sometimes a common problem for artists even professionals have that problem, other reasons are because I like the challenge and I think their cute.
I also think that anthro art is going to be popular for a while because of a certain movie.

As for the watermark which I will admit does mess up the picture, that is because I have seen far to many artists have to fight to prove their being ripped off by some smart-alec with a copy of Photoshop who thinks they can just take someones art and post it.

It is one thing to be inspired by someone elses art and create your own take on the theme but it is quite different to take the art.

At the least it means that people will find my blog even if they find my art on pinterest.
Which is rather good because it is very hard to find stuff to repin when no one tracks down the true source or just crops out the artists signature.

Inktober Day 11

A Giant Robot for Inktober Day 11
And now something inorganic, a Giant Super Incredible Humongous Extra Large Super Sized Really Really Big, Robot!

Inktober Day 10

A Woman transformed into a Fearsome Were-Cat and in an area where cats are banned.
Uh Oh!
Oh dear.. the Ink Demon is at work I know it, this poor Were-Cat is in deep trouble, cats are banned in this neighborhood.

Inktober day 9

A Cat Witch making some blood cheese for a vampire mouse.
Ta-dah! Blood Cheese!
Yes this time I have added some color, I had to, otherwise you wouldn't know that was supposed to be cheese made of blood.
I know I made a mistake on the day I wrote 8 instead of 9.

Incidentally I is anyone watching me on pinterest? W.M.Bat on Pinterest

Inktober Day 8

Okay this is getting good.
A Mummy dressing as a princess
A perfect normal princess, right?
Here we have an anthro cat mummy dressing for a party, as a princess.

Inktober Day 7

The Mummies Cursed Jewelery!
Inktober Day 7 The Mummies Cursed Jewelery, A Pair of Cartoon Animal Women are wearing cursed necklaces that are transforming their cloths as the mummy queen gazes thru the window.
What the...! Hey...!
Never buy jewelry from a store that suddenly appears from out of nowhere... Especially with out doing a curse check!
This is also going to be part of a series, one of three.
I wonder if that mummy queen in the window knows how to seal the Ink Demon, no wait, she might have more important concerns.
I happen to like to do cartoon animal people it gives me a good way around only six faces, also it gives me more places to put jewelry.

Thursday, October 6, 2016

Inktober Day 6, This is a good one.

It's alive!
Franken Dachshund Hugs, A Cartoon cat woman lab assitant hugging a canine Doctor Frankenstein
Oh Herr Doctor! It's Alive!
Yep a bunch of anthro characters this time.
It's basically a mad scientist bit, the old Doc Frankenstein gag.
The mustache is a bit of a nod to Gene Wilder but that's all, I just thought it would be cute to have the lab assistant be a cute cat woman instead of the usual Igor.
In case your wondering he's looking away because he's embarrassed, also I forgot to draw his eye brows in or blushing, I fix it later.
Oh and the Monster is O'kay.

Wednesday, October 5, 2016

Inktober day 5.

Inktober day 5, Disembodied Eyes #1
Inktober Day 5, A woman meeting disembodied eyes, eye to eye
Hey! Don't I know you from somewhere?
So here's one I am really proud of, some of my Inktober drawing are going to tell a short story, this one has to do with disembodied eyes, this is the first of five images, I'm not going to do them all in a row, but they will be done.

Tuesday, October 4, 2016

Inktober Day 4

Here's a cute little cat for day 4.

A Cat with a bag of candy.
So look at him, he's cute right?
So today's was a little limp, they can't all be full torso illustrations.

Inktober Day 3

Not Dead Yet, Maybe Undead?

A Sexy Mummy for Inktober 2016
A Sexy Mummy Man.

So for today I decided to draw a Sexy Mummy, and I decided to have some fun and make it a man.
That's right, I follow up a Sexy Witch with a Sexy Mummy, no their not going to be all sexy, why did you think the Ink Demon was sexy?
Don't suppose he knows how to re-seal the Ink Demon by any chance?
And I just realized that the way I drew his buckle is rather cute. Hmm

Sunday, October 2, 2016

Inktober Day 2

Day 2 of Inktober.

A Sexy Witch Inktober Day 2
A Sexy Witch
Right Like I said in my earlier blog post, I am doing the line work in October for Inktober, but I will add the watercolor at a later time.
I am going to try posting each day and there is no set time.
On to the Art, what do you think? You don't suppose she is the one who sealed the Ink Demon do you?
Nah, She looks more like the type to sell you a love potion dialed up to Nine thousand nine hundred and ninety nine ninety nine nine nine and eleven. Why do you think the smoke is smiling?

Inktober 2016

Beware Inktober!

I decided to take on the Inktober Challenge.
I have created a nice little list of what I want to draw, I am going to try to create one image a day but there is a catch.
I am going to try create an ink drawing each day thru October BUT! The Watercolor will be added when I choose to.

As for the image.

What do you think? rather nice little Ink Demon isn't it?
I really like to use complementary colors for shading, and while I would prefer to make the shading softer, I'm afraid I haven't figured that out yet.
As for the fingers, I actually do draw fingers differently then this, however he is supposed to made out of ink, that means he should be rather droopy.

When will I be posting.
I will try to post once per day, assuming I can finish the image in time, on the other hand I might just do a "art dump" on Fridays.

Well that's all I have to say.

P.S.

I'm on pinterest now, I just need to link my accounts, but I'm at the following link if anyone is looking. https://www.pinterest.com/pencilcanblog/ .

My self, err Pen Portrait

A sort of a Pen Portrait.

A cartoon portrait of the blog author's pen name alter ego.
I needed something to put on this blog.

As if it wasn't clear that W.M.BäT is supposed to mean Wombat. I have painted a little cartoon self, or should a say, pen portrait based on my nom de plume, my pseudonym, my name de gurre as it were. Okay so I'm a ham! What do you expect from someone who draws?

A bit more practice at this blog.

A bit more practice at this blog.

Why I created this blog.

So I created this blog to show off my art and writing as part of a course I am taking.
Eventually
I will also be posting video of some sort, perhaps a speed painting or something.
At some point in the future I am going to have to decided to either create a separate fan art blog or not.
It boils down to weather or not I can use ads or not on this blog.

Why I want to have ads.

The oldest reason of course, money.
I want to earn a profit from my work, I can't do that unless I either sell my work to a publisher, and that is quite difficult right now as I am an unknown, and when it comes to art, well, it's murky in that area.

Having ads would be a great thing if I get enough visitors, but right now I don't even have one, though I will be making steps to alter that soon, very soon.

See ya!

A quick tip about writing on blogger.

Hello this is my first scheduled and unscheduled post!
That is I wrote this on the spur of the moment, but I scheduled it for later.

Since I will be posting writing to this blog I realized I was going to have trouble if I could not indent, so I did some research and I found that some people were using an extra <div></div> tag to add an indent, but that also adds an extra margin, so I tried to use a <span></span> tag. At first I couldn't get that to work because a <span></span> tag is an inline element, but all I need to do was set it to display as a block

Here is the code I used.
<span style="display: block; text-indent:4em;"></span>

Now my paragraphs can be indented.

Now for some writing to illustrate my point..

I sat at my desk trying to make Blogger give in to my reasonable demand, is it so much to ask to be able to indent my text, it's not as if I am asking them to completely change their code am I? Suddenly I remember that the span tag exists, I hurry to try, only to discover it does not work, for alas! It is an inline style tag! But Wait! Theres More! Is there not a way to change a tags display style? Why yes there is! It is but a simple matter to change the display, I simply add display:block; to the style tag and it is done.

Neat Huh!

I also found out that if I copy from my word processor it keeps the formatting.

First post

So I figure the best first post I can make is one explaining what I plan to do here.

Introduction time.

I will be going by my pen name for privacy reasons and I didn't think of that at the time I made the generic admin user name but I think I will stick with that.

As to why my pen name is W.M.BäT, yes with an umlaute, its rather a personal one but I needed a pen name and wombat was suggested, I felt that it would be better if I made a "normal" sounding name that happened to phonetically spell wombat.

As for the umlaute, it has two purposes, one is that it looks like a wombats face, with the dots as the eyes and the a as the nose when written in all caps, two it makes it sound like Wombot, which goes well for me because I like giant robots as well.

No I am not a weirdo. I will explain more at a later date.

What I am doing here.

Well I cam creating this blog for three reasons one is to show of my art and writing, another is because I want to make money, the third is I need to make one because I am taking a blogging course.

I am hoping that I can post at least once a week but I may have to settle for once a month until I can create a backlog of what I have.

What I am hopping to post are excerpts of my stories and on occasion the full story as well, as a matter of fact I think I will try to create a story for my next post, followed by a sketch then a water color, I hope.

I will also be posting some, for lack of a better term, article type stuff since I have ideas I want to get out of my head.

I would post the pictures I entered in a local art show, but my privacy senses are yelling bad idea so I shall wait.

As for my art I am generally a cartoonist type, and while I may create a fanart blog at a later date, what I will be posting here will be strictly mine. I will be posting a range of subjects, and that will include pinups, poses, studies, illustrations, and some will be of human, machine, animal, anthro and supernatural type characters

So that's all for now, time to take a bow.
